David J. Wesselman, 64, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

According to David’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

David was born on October 17, 1953, in Effingham, IL, the son of Joseph and Anna (Kortte) Wesselman. He married Jean Schuette on July 7, 1975 in Effingham, and to this union five children were born.

David was employed at World Color for 34 years and was a farmer. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears fan. David loved playing pool, throwing darts, and poker. He always found joy in playing slow pitch softball with his work buddies. Most of all, David enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Effingham Moose Lodge and Teutopolis Knights of Columbus.

David is survived by children, David “Tony” (Bessie) Wesselman, Robert (Rachel) Wesselman, Amanda Wesselman, Gina (Fernando) Garcia, and Elizabeth (Kirk) Kidd; grandchildren, Sydney Wesselman, Nadia Garcia, Martin Garcia, Alliann Garcia, Tobin Wesselman, Korryn Wesselman, Ashby Wesselman, Laurellie “Rory” Kidd, KJ Kidd, and Brett Wesselman; siblings, Martha Gazay, Marcella (John) Koester, Henry Wesselman, Herman (Millie) Wesselman, Dorothy (Terry) Huddlestun, Louise Mueller, Lucy (Larry) Flach, Rita Vandeveer, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Mary Vandeveer.
