Margaret E. Berkbigler, 95, of Effingham, formerly of Altamont, died at 8:03 a.m. Sunday, March 4, 2018 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

A brief memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6th at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with Stan Huels officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30 pm until service time. Entombment will be at Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham.

Margaret was born on Wednesday, January 24, 1923 in Nashville, IL to Harry and Maude (Carter) Williams. She married Kenneth E. Berkbigler on March 14, 1943 and he preceded her in death on May 2, 2003. She had been a bookkeeper and secretary for Dr.’s Phillips and Heshmatpour and assisted her husband in the operation of the Altamont IGA store. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Altamont where she had been treasurer and a member of the Altamont Garden Club. She was an avid golfer and had been a member and treasurer of the St. Elmo Golf Club where she had hole-in-one.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis (Jan) Berkbigler of Effingham and Bill (Sharon) Berkbigler of Gilbert, AZ; daughter, Gayle Berkbigler of Austin, TX; 6 grandchildren, Jeff Berkbigler, John Berkbigler, Amber Nosbisch, Aaron Nosbisch, Autumn Nichols and Bryce Berkbigler and 6 great grandchildren, Grant Berkbigler, Jack Berkbigler, Carter Berkbigler, Tyler Berkbigler, Lucy Berkbigler, and Luna Pearl Parkman.
