Paula A. Moore (87) of Effingham

Paula Antoinette (Schieber) Moore, age 87, passed away peacefully at HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, February 24, 2018.

Rosary service will be held at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, with visitation immediately following from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham on Thursday, March 1 at 10:30 a.m. with burial following in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Effingham. The family asks that donations be made to Sacred Heart Grade School or Sacred Heart Council of Catholic Women.

Paula was born June 4, 1930, in Grand Junction, Colorado, the eldest daughter of Anthony and Paula (Hanatsek) Schieber of Paonia, Colorado. She graduated as valedictorian from Paonia High School in 1948 and then from St. John’s School of Nursing in St. Louis in 1951. She married Frederick Moore of Teeterville, Kansas, in 1955 in St. Louis, moving to Effingham in 1957. She worked at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse and then for Dr. Kris Lee as his primary office nurse.

She and Fred had seven children: Marcia (Randall) Niemerg of Teutopolis; Sheila (Mark, deceased) Percival of Watson; Stephen (fiancé Lisa) Moore of Effingham; Jane (Mike) Winters of Dieterich; Melissa (Randal) Schmitt of Troy; Maureen Moore (deceased); and Thomas (Kathleen) Moore of Oblong.

Paula’s love for her family and faith was evident through her actions. She attended countless family activities, near and far. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church and was involved in many organizations, including Catholic Daughters of America and Council of Catholic Women. She had the patience of a saint, which was needed with the children she was blessed with, and the husband she was married to. She was an incredible seamstress and sewed matching outfits for the children, which were worn on the annual family vacations, combining two of her biggest loves – family and travel. She travelled all over the country with her family and all over the world with her husband.

She leaves behind her husband and their family legacy including six children, eighteen grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, one step great-great-grandchild, her sister, Dea Bruno, of Littleton, Colorado, nephew, Thaddeus (Robin) Bruno of Effingham, and several out of the area nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Bernadette Coffelt, daughter, Maureen Moore, son-in-law, Mark Percival, and great-grandson, David Schaefer.

This beautiful matriarch will be greatly missed by those she left behind.
