David Franklin Coleman, 86, of Brownstown passed away at 11:49pm Friday, February 16, 2018 at Aperion Care St. Elmo.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm Tuesday, February 20 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia. A Graveside Service will be held 11:00am Wednesday at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, rural Brownstown. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Brownstown VFW.

David Franklin Coleman was born May 8, 1931 in Columbia, MO, the son of Benjamin Emmett and Martha Emily (Sappington) Coleman. Over the years David worked in various areas of the HVAC industry, beginning after high school helping his brother install freezers in Missouri; he later moved to San Diego, CA, where he applied his machinist knowledge from his Navy service to various jobs. While in California, David met and married Jeanette Koch on October 4, 1958. In 1975, David bought Sacramento Refrigeration, for many years he owned and operated the business. David and family retired and moved to Brownstown, IL in the early 90s. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Vandalia, IL; Brownstown VFW Post 9770; Mason’s Temperance Lodge; and the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Coleman of Brownstown; daughters, Bonnie Petersen and Debbie Coleman; grandchildren, Samantha Coleman, Jessie Jackson, Dalton Coleman-Scott, Jennifer Bishop, Felicia Hostettler, and Emily Petersen; great grandchildren, Brody, Lourelai, Lilly, Presley, Daniel, Gabriel, Rorie, and Harper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Lee Coleman; brothers, Guy Coleman, BE Coleman, Archie Lee Coleman, and Emmett Coleman; sister, Myrtle Dothage.
