Nellie L. Rentfro, 90, of Effingham, formerly of Beecher City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the EvangelUnited Methodist Church in Beecher City with Pastor Paul Bauer officiating. Visitation will befrom 1:00 pm until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place in Stewardson Cemetery.

Nellie was born on August 27, 1927, in Stewardson, the daughter of Noah and Lelah (Grove) Mietzner. She married William G. Rentfro on August 9, 1947 in Stewardson. He passed away on November 30, 2006.

Nellie received her teaching certificate from Eastern Illinois University and did teach, but her true passion was farming alongside her husband. Nellie was a memberof the Evangel United Methodist Church in Beecher City, Agape Women’s Group, Mill Road Thresherman Association of Altamont, Effingham Farm Bureau and a 50 year plus member of the Wright Home Extension. Nellie served as an election judge for Moccasin Township and enjoyed playing bingo with the seniors at the Beecher City Kluthe Center.

Nellie is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Brad) Gritton of Burkburnett, TX; grandson, LtWilliam F. (Andrea) Gritton of San Diego, CA; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and William. She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Lelah; husband, William; brother, Ralph Mietzner and sister-in-law Joyce Mietzner.
