Madelyn E. Kuhn, 85, of Greenup, IL passed away at 7:15 AM Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County, IL.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 22 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the First Southern Baptist Church or to the Greenup American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

Madelyn was born on May 21, 1932 in Benton, IL to James Robert & Myrtle (Sanders) Swofford. She married Herb Dossett on October 23, 1947; then married Lowell F. “Kuhnie” Kuhn on July 17, 1971 and he preceded her in 1990.

Surviving are two daughters Madelyn “Tootie” Ryder and Linda Hannah; Step sons Frank, Theron, Dick and Donnie Kuhn; Step daughter Karen Mitchell; Grandchildren Herbie Holdern, Joey Holdern, Michael Ryder, Jerry Hannah and Crystal Hannah; 12 Great-Grandchildren and six Great-Great Grandchildren; Brother James Robert Swofford and Sister Geraldine Manasco both of Benton, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Step daughter Kay Carlen; son in law Jim Ryder and one great-great grandchild.

Madelyn was a homemaker and had worked as a Cook, Waitress, the Shoe Factory, Charles Industries and the Life Center of Cumberland County. She was member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Greenup, the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Eastern Star for 40 years, and a charter member of the Greenup American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.
