Ruth Adkins, age 86, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 8:45 PM - Friday, July 7, 2017, at Pekin Manor in Pekin, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM – Tuesday, July 11 at Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Larry Matson officiating. Burial will be in the Brick Cemetery north west of Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. Ruth was born on November 9, 1930, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Michael and Viola (Dillion) Stone. She married William McLouth in 1954. They had two sons, Tim and Alan.  On February 4, 1959, she married Paul Adkins, and they had two sons Randy Adkins and Dan Adkins.  Paul preceded Ruth in death on February 5, 2012. Ruth graduated from high school in Ohio. She attended Olivet University in Bourbonnais, Illinois. She worked at the Joliet Arsenal near Joliet, Illinois. Ruth moved to the Peoria area in the late 1950s and worked as a housewife raising her four sons. After Paul’s retirement from Caterpillar they lived in several towns including Oblong, Illinois; Thomaston, Georgia; Marianna, Florida and Newton, Illinois. Ruth was a member of the Newton Southern Baptist Church and the Pekin Church of the Nazarene. Her faith played a big part in her life and attended church services weekly. Ruth enjoyed quilting, working jigsaw puzzles, cooking and having pets.

Ruth is survived by children Stephen (Lori) Adkins of Apple Creek, Ohio; Tim McLouth of Peoria, Illinois; Alan (Cindy) McLouth of Pekin, Illinois; Randy (Sharon) Adkins of Hutsonville, Illinois and Dan (Shanna) Adkins of Wheeler, Illinois. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Stu Adkins, brother Clifford “Sonny” Stone and sister Ruby Roberson.
