Helen E. Johnson, 100, of Brownstown, died at 3:20 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017 at Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 26 at Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown with Pastor Larry Clonch officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery, rural Brownstown. Visitation will be for one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be made to Liberty Christian Church, Brownstown or the Seventh Day Adventist Church, St. Elmo.

Helen Elizabeth Darnell was born on Monday, February 5, 1917 in Sefton Township to John and Sallie (Macon) Darnell. She married Paul Robert ‘Pete’ Johnson on November 6, 1938 in St. Charles, Missouri, and he preceded her in death in 1992. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, St. Elmo. She had been a Brownstown correspondent for the Vandalia Leader-Union, WPMB Radio, and St. Elmo Banner.

She is survived by her son, Paul G. Johnson and his wife Connie of Leander, Texas; daughters, Rebecca Carroll and her husband Charles of Ramsey and Heidi Wilkosz and her husband Ray of St. Peters, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, David M. Johnson, daughter, Sallie Miller, 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
