Arlin G. Arnold, 80, of Effingham, IL, passed away at 3:00 p. m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Memorial services for Arlin will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Watson United Methodist Church, Watson, with the Rev. Roger McIntire officiating. Military rites will be held after the memorial service at the church. Visitation will be from 10 a. m. to 1 p. m. Saturday, prior to the services at the church.  Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham.  Memorials may be made to Watson United Methodist Church, 37 Highway, Watson, IL 63473.

Arlin was born on September 8, 1933, in Effingham County, IL, the son of William C. and Cora Belle (Bates) Arnold. He married Dorothy Deters on February 14, 1956, at St. Michael's Church in Sigel, IL, and she survives. Arlin served in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean War. He began his career as a police officer for the Effingham City Police Department in 1964. He retired as the Chief of Police of Effingham in 1993. He was a member of the American Legion Post 120, National Rifle Association, Effingham County Farm Bureau, Policemen's Benevolent and Protective Association of Illinois, and the Watson United Methodist Church. He was especially fond of Arabian horses. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He will be greatly missed by family and his many friends.
Arlin is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, William J. (Cathy) Arnold of Effingham; granddaughters, Angela (David Martin) Arnold of Effingham and Brianne (Jeremy Holmes) Arnold of Chatham; great-granddaughter, Aurora Holmes of Chatham; brother, Merle (Lenora) Arnold of St. Joseph, MO; sister-in-law, Carol Plunkett of Bakersfield, CA; brother-in-law, James Hemesath of Middletown, Ohio; special nephew, Matt Matteson; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.                                    
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy Arnold, Forrest "Bonnie" Arnold, and an infant brother; sisters, Lois Matteson and Eda Belle Althoff; mother-in-law, Wanda Flood; fathers-in-law, Lucian Deters and Leo Flood; sisters-in-law, Georgianna Byrd, Rosemary Hemesath, and Virginia Arnold; brothers-in-law, Paul "Boots" Althoff, Larry Plunkett, and Dean Matteson; nieces, Cheryl Appelt and Joyce Matteson; and his favorite horse, "Nipper".
