Wanda June Miller, 86, of Beecher City, Illinois passed away at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014 in her home surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 in the Beecher City Church of Christ. An additional visitation will be held at 10 a.m. preceding the funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday March 27 in the church. Her sons, Robert and Donald, and Minister Dennis Warner will officiate. Burial will be in Hubbartt Cemetery near Beecher City. Memorials may be made to the Beecher City Church of Christ or Heartland Christian Village in Neoga. June was born December 15, 1927 in Mattoon, the daughter of A.R. and Edith Shewmake Smith. She married Walter Miller November 30, 1947 in the United Methodist Church in Mattoon. Together they loved and raised five children. June faithfully followed Jesus Christ and served as an active member of the Beecher City Church of Christ.  For most of her adult life, she taught two and three year olds in Sunday school and served on the church mission team. June graduated from Mattoon High School in 1945. As a student, she worked at the Nickelodeon Theatre in Mattoon, playing the Hawaiian guitar and piano while the movie reels were changed. Later, she worked at Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company in Mattoon. In Beecher City, June deeply loved people and enjoyed serving them as an Amway representative in her community. June volunteered for many years with the Beecher City Unit School District 20 Mother`s Club (known now as the Parents’ Association). She participated in Beecher City Eastern Star, serving as Chaplain and Worthy Matron. For many years, she worked enthusiastically as a volunteer at Fairhaven Christian Home in Decatur and Heartland Christian Village in Neoga. She and Walter faithfully supported the work of Bond Christian Service Camp in Mulberry Grove. June loved her family, church and community.

Surviving are her husband, Walter; children, Gary Dean (wife Nancy) Miller of Springfield,, Donald Ray Miller of Beecher City, James Roy (wife Vicky) Miller of Beecher City, Robert Gene (wife Carol) Miller of Manchester, NH and Jean Ellen Miller Roberts of Beecher City; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold Roy Smith and Edith Shewmake Smith; sisters, Evelyn Mary Smith, Irene Smith Gaston; brothers, Gerald Dean Smith, Harold Gene Smith; daughter-in-law, Anne McCarty Miller and son-in-law, Frank William Dunaway.
