On Monday, December 21 at 6:00 PM, Altamont United Methodist Church will host a Blue Christmas/Longest Night service for those who mourn at Christmas. The Christmas season is bustling with messages of joy, hope, and expectation. The experience of grief, whether fresh or lingering, can be heightened and made raw by the holidays. Blue Christmas acknowledges the long, difficult part of the journey to hope.

The date Monday, December 21 was intentionally chosen because it is the winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, symbolizing the long, dark night of grief.

This service is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Holiday mourning comes from many places: the death of loved ones, divorce, job loss, abuse, neglect, painful memories. All who grieve for any reason are invited.

Our Blue Christmas service is intended as an ecumenical service for the community. Holy Communion will be offered.

Altamont United Methodist Church is located at 308 N. 2nd Street, Altamont, IL. For further information call Rev. Willie Deuel at 618-483-5192.
