On March 8, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in the final program of  the current season of historic presentations at the Effingham County Museum, nurse and medical historian, Dr. Linda Ruholl will present “The Spanish flu pandemic of 1918-1920.”  The 1918 flu, or Spanish flu, caused the highest number of known influenza deaths. More than 500,000 people died in the United States, and up to 50 million people may have died worldwide. Many people died within the first few days after infection with theSpanish flu, and others died of related complications.  making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in human history.  Many Effingham area residents were among those afflicted by the disease.

The program will answer questions such as these:  What was the Spanish flu?  Why it was it so lethal?  What do people do about the Spanish flu?  What was the result in Effingham county and in Illinois?  What lessons does the Spanish flu have for us?

Hope to see you there!

Delaine Donaldson, ECCCMA President
