Three Killed in Sunday Evening Crash in Coles County

Three people were killed in a three-vehicle collision Sunday evening in Coles County.

The crash happened at 5pm on Illinois Route 130, south of Charleston.

Illinois State Police report a car began passing a line of traffic southbound and struck a pickup truck and a SUV headed northbound. The driver of the southbound car and two passengers in the car were killed. The driver of the SUV was taken to a regional hospital with what police termed life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

Route 130 in the area of the crash was closed until close to midnight Sunday night.

The names of those killed or injured have not been released.
