Effingham was among 22 recipients of urban forestry projects presented by the Morton Arboretum. The projects will share nearly $6.9 million. 61 applications were received requesting more than $14 million.

Effingham will receive $50,000 to complete a 100% inventory of the city's trees, develop an Urban Forestry Management Plan, and remove dead trees and plant new ones in disadvantaged areas.

A ceremony was held Monday to announce the recipients of the funds.
