Effingham County Student Receives Sheriff's Scholarship

The Illinois Sheriff's Association scholarship for Effingham County in 2024 has been awarded to Layne Jones of Beecher City.

Layne is a recent graduate of Beecher City High School and will attend McKendree University this fall to major in Exercise Science/Sports Performance Kinesiology.

Since 1979, the Illinois Sheriff's Association has awarded at least one student in each county a scholarship. The scholarship must be awarded to an Illinois student and the student must be attending an Illinois higher learning institution. The scholarship must be applied to tuition, fees, or books, and the student must be enrolled for te 2024-2025 school year.

The scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding scholastic, extra-curricular and character qualifications.

Gavin Flack of rural Altamont was selected as first alternate in the scholarship competition.
