A Mason resident was injured in a crash during the noon hour on Sunday.

State police say the crash occurred on Illinois 37, a half-mile south of Mason at 12:24pm.  A vehicle driven by 64-year-old John Augustas of Mason ran off the right side of the highway.  The unit then skidded back across both lanes of travel and hit a guardrail.  The vehicle then ran off into a wooded area and struck several trees before coming to rest on the driver's side.

Augustas was initially taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, and then was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Augustas was cited for DUI, improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, no insurance and operating unsafe equipment.
