The Effingham City Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday voted to grant a variance.

The variance is for a rear yard setback for an accessory building at the home of Mark and Janet Knabe at 1021 North Merchant Street. The Knabes plan to replace an existing shed with a garage. The variance will reduce the setback from six feet to zero feet.

The Zoning Board of Appeals also gave recognition to two outgoing Board members, Kurt Buehnerkemper and Theresa Hillyer. Two new Board members are expected to be named at the City Council meeting on May 7.
