Are you the parent of a creative, curious, or ambitious 11 to 15-year-old looking to explore the world of entrepreneurship and make money this summer? The Effingham County Chamber, in partnership with Dau Consulting, is hosting the 4th Annual Camp Start-Up, an entrepreneurship day camp and business pitch competition.

Scheduled to take place from May 28th to May 31st, 9 am to 3 pm daily, at StangARTs located at 112 W Washington Ave in downtown Effingham, Camp Start-Up offers a unique opportunity for young minds to learn the fundamentals of starting, marketing, and running their own businesses, or even collaborating with friends to launch a venture.

Campers will benefit from hands-on mentorship provided by local entrepreneurs and experienced camp counselors, guiding them through every step of the entrepreneurial journey. Throughout the camp, participants will:

  • Turn their ideas or passions into money-making ventures.
  • Engage in enjoyable activities including scavenger hunts, guest speakers, tours, games, and video/ad creation.
  • Participate in the "Think Big" Olympics, fostering teamwork and creativity.
  • Acquire essential skills such as logo design and social media marketing.
  • Compete for a chance to win $50 with the best business pitch.

"I am delighted to unveil our newest endeavor, conceived in direct response to the strategic goals outlined by our Board of Directors in 2023. At the forefront of our mission is the nurturing of youth development within Effingham County, and this innovative initiative seamlessly aligns with that core objective. Our aim is to establish a dedicated youth pipeline program tailored to the vibrant young population of our community."  said Lucinda Hart, CAE, MBA, IOM, President & CEO, Effingham County Chamber.

The camp fee is $189 per camper, with limited scholarships available to eligible applicants. Additionally, sponsorships are warmly welcomed to support this enriching experience for local youth. Businesses interested in supporting this initiative can contact the Chamber office at (217) 342-4147 before the March 29th deadline.
