A local man was arrested on a series of charges by Effingham city police.

41-year-old Frank T. Woodall of Effingham was arrested on charges of felon in possession or use of a weapon or firearm, burglary, aggravated assault, and resisting a peace officer.

Effingham City Police Chief Jason McFarland said Woodall was reportedly attempting to gain access to a motor vehicle parked at Centenary United Methodist Church on Thursday. McFarland said Woodall displayed a knife when approached by police officers and actively engaged four officers during the incident.

Woodall was scheduled to appear in court on Friday, but declined to appear either in person or by Zoom. Probable cause was found for Woodall to remain in custody. He is next due to appear on March 21.
