Greenup Woman Fatally Injured in Crash Near Dieterich

A Greenup woman was fatally injured Sunday afternoon in a crash along the Dieterich/Montrose Blacktop.

Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes identified the person killed as 43-year-old Kelli J. Moon.

Illinois State Police Troop 9 units responded to the scene along with the Effingham County Sheriff's Office and Dieterich Fire Protection District firefighters. The crash occurred about three miles north of Dieterich shortly before 3:30pm. The northbound car ran off the road to the right and struck a ditch, rolled multiple times, and Moon was ejected from the vehicle. Rhodes said Moon was taken to the St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, where she died at 4:38pm.

Rhodes said Moon was alone in the car at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Effingham County Coroner's Office and the Illinois State Police.
