14-Year-Old Boy Fatally Wounded in Fayette County

A 14-year-old boy was fatally wounded when shot Saturday evening. 

The name of the boy has not been released.

Illinois State Police report the suspect in the shooting fled the scene, but was later apprehended. The suspect's name has also not been released. There are reports the suspect is also a juvenile.

Fayette County Coroner Dave Harris pronounced the 14-year-old dead at the scene, reportedly near St. Peter. Harris said also on scene were personnel from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, Vandalia Police Department, St. Elmo Police Department, and St. Peter Fire Department. Those agencies were joined by CSI and the Department of Criminal Investigation from the Illinois State Police.

An autopsy on the victim will be conducted in Springfield on Monday.
