A Cowden man was injured in a car crash in Marion County Sunday morning.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office reported that a car driven by 26-year-old Jamison Fletcher ran off the Alma Hatchery Road near Bailey Road west of I-57 at 10:20am. The car then struck a power pole and caught fire.

Fletcher was able to get out of the car ahead of the arrival of emergency crews, but his dog trapped inside the vehicle perished. Fletcher was first taken to Salem Township Hospital, then was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment of injuries.

Salem Fire Protection District firefighters handled the fire call.
