Altamont school board members Monday approved a three-year contract for Kris Biggs as grade school principal, to begin July 1, 2024.

Biggs, currently the assistant principal, will succeed Doug Hill, who is retiring following this school year.

The Board also authorized Superintendent Casey Adam to post for certified positions for the coming school year, including an assistant principal for the district, high school English teacher, and a third grade teacher. Board members also hired Klaiton Wolff as high school assistant baseball coach, approved Alan Kollmann as volunteer assistant coach for 5th and 6th grade basketball, and approved a five-year agreement with Apptegy to host the district website, app, and parent notification system.

Altamont board members approved the tax levy, which features a 10% increase in equalized assessed valuation from the previous year, approved an asbestos removal bid for $35,100 from Alloy Group for the high school kitchen summer project, and approved a district appraisal to be conducted by Industrial Appraisal for the accurate valuation of the district for insurance purposes.

The Board also heard from Facilities Director Alan Whitt on the hot water tank at the high school, updating parking lot lighting in selected areas, and the ongoing need for custodial applicants.
