Effingham Public Library board members took time at their recent meeting to discuss converting to a library district.

Library Director Amanda McKay said there are board members who have not been aboard for past discussions on converting to a library district. McKay reminded that two paths can be pursued toward becoming a library district. One option is a majority of city residents approving a referendum to create a district; the other option involves votes by both the City Council and the Library Board in favor of creating the district.

The Board also discussed an targeted email campaign to bring back lost library patrons.

Board members approved renewal of liability insurance with the City of Effingham and approved investing $600,000 in reserves in CDs at local banks. Also approved was a gift of two additional days of comp time for each current library employee for Christmas.
