Filing Period for March Primary Closes

There were several last-day filers for the March 2024 primary election on Monday, both on the local level and the state level.

On the local level, Mike Buzzard has filed for the Republican nomination for County Board in District F. Incumbent Republican Elizabeth Huston did not file for re-election.

There are no contests for County Board. Tim Ellis is the Republican incumbent in District C. Ellis was appointed to the Board to replace Jeremy Kyle, who resigned a short term after he was elected due to a move outside his district. David Campbell is the Republican incumbent in District D. Doug McCain is the Democrat incumbent in District G. Jeremy Deters is the Republican incumbent in District I.

As far as countywide offices, Tammy Kreke is the Republican incumbent for Circuit Clerk. Kreke was appointed Circuit Clerk when John Niemerg retired. Aaron Jones is the Republican incumbent for States Attorney. Jones was appointed States Attorney when Bryan Kibler was elected Resident Circuit Judge. Kim Rhodes is the Republican incumbent for County Coroner. Rhodes is opposed by challenger Matthew Brown for the Republican Coroner nomination.

At Springfield, the number of candidates for 12th District Congressman swelled. On the Republican side, incumbent Mike Bost and challenger Darren Bailey have both filed. There are now three Democrat candidates.They are Joshua Qualls of Centralia, and two last day filers...Brian Roberts of DeSoto and Preston Gabriel Nelson of Lebanon.

Matthew Hall of Vandalia has filed for the Republican nomination for State Representative in the 110th District and will square off against incumbent Blaine Wilhour of Beecher City. Incumbent Brad Halbrook of Shelbyville and challenger Marsha Webb of Macon filed for the Republican nomination for State Representative in the 107th District. Adam Niemerg of Dieterich is unopposed for another term as 102nd District State Representattive. Jason Plummer has filed for another term as 55th District State Senator. Dennis Atteberry of Taylorville and Douglas Gruenke of New Baden are seeking the Republican nomination for 4th District Circuit Judge to fill the vacancy created when Michael McHaney was elected an appellate judge.

These individuals filed for Precinct Committeemen in Effingham County...Republican Scott Beal in West Township, Republican Steve Donaldson in Liberty Township, Republican Paul Kuhns in Mason Township, Republican Lisa Tegeler in Jackson Township, Republican Jane Willenborg in Summit 1 Precinct, Democrat Patrick Lewis in Summit 3 Precinct, Republican Shirley Moore in Summit 4 Precinct, Republican Travis Buhnerkempe in Watson 2 Precinct, Republican Douglas Levi Slater in Watson 3 Precinct, Republican Shannon McClurg in Douglas 4 Precinct, Republican Josh Douthit in Douglas 7 Precinct, Republican Lisa Sudkamp in Douglas 9 Precinct, Republican Dallas Bear in Douglas 12 Precinct, Republican David Mahon in Douglas 13 Precinct, and Republican Jose Durbin in Douglas 14 Precinct.
