Shoebox Collection Increased This Year

Shoeboxes collected for Operation Christmas Child in Effingham this year totaled 3,303. That compares to 3,046 boxes collected in 2022. Today was the deadline to turn in boxes.

Operation Christmas Child is a global effort overseen by Samaritan's Purse. The effort is designed to send boxes containing toys, books, hygiene items and other helpful items to children around the world.

The local Shoebox collection effort is headed by Sandy Wilson, who reported that the total shoeboxes collected in our region for 2023 were 11,458. The 2022 collection was 11,056. 

The boxes were loaded onto three semi trailers and sent to Boone, North Carolina.
