While a federal appeals court has ruled that the state's assault weapons ban does not violate the US Constitution, many expect an appeal of the decision to the US Supreme Court.

During a firearms registration public hearing this past Thursday, local St. Rep. Brad Halbrook of Shelbyville sought answers on what will happen if the law is found unconstitutional and gun owners have been penalized In the meantime?

Halbrook also asked what would happen to the personal information supplied by those who complied with the guideline?

With that possibility in mind, Halbrook said he is co-sponsoring House Bill 4150, which would require that the information be destroyed.
