Three people were taken for treatment following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning at the intersection of Moccasin Road and Lake Sara Road.

The Effingham County Sheriff's Office reports the crash occurred at 8:22am and involved vehicles driven by 74-year-old Robert C. Heiple II of Metamora and 53-year-old Trent A. Wilson of Effingham. Wilson was stopped northbound on Lake Sara Road, while Heiple was eastbound on Moccasin Road, approaching the four-way stop intersection.

Wilson proceeded north, while Heiple failed to stop at the stop sign and struck Wilson's vehicle in the intersection. Both vehicles left the roadway and came to rest in the ditch. Heiple's vehicle was pulling a bass boat, which was ejected from the trailer and came to rest in the roadway east of the intersection.

Robert Heiple and his passenger, 74-year-old Joyce Heiple of Metamora, were both injured. Robert Heiple was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham by Rural Med EMS. Joyce Heiple was airlifted from the scene by Air Evac to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Trent Wilson was also injured and was airlifted from the scene by Arch Air Medical to Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Both drivers were ticketed...Robert Heiple for disobeying a traffic control device, and Wilson for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
