Area Competitors Do Well At State Fair Competitions

SPRINGFIELD -- Several area residents picked up top honors at the Illinois State Fair competitions.

Susie Wurl, from Altamont, received first place finishes in Child's Decorated Sweatshirt, Bib, Adult Sweatshirt, Crocheted Baby Blanket, Large Picture, Appliqued Towel and Evening Purse.

Wurl picked up second place finishes in Machine Embroidered Towel, Small Miscellaneous Pictures, Infant or Childs Sweater Crocheted, Construction Cloth Toy and Miscellaneous Machine Embroidered Home Decoration

She also had third place finishes in Adult Accessories Tote and Any Stitched Holiday Decoration.

Diane Buzzard of Altamont captured two third place finishes in textiles in Infant or Child's Set, Two or More Crocheted Pieces and Infant's Carriage Robe or Crib Blanket, Crocheted.

Sarah Sasse of Dieterich claimed a first, second and third in textiles. She was first in Construction Toddler Outfit, second in Construction Christening Outfit and Adult Casual.

Kurt Becker, of Altamont, was a winner eight times along with several second, third and fifth place finishes.

Becker won in the antique division with a Bride Basket; Glass, Pressed, Colored; Illinois State Fair Souvenir Or Ribbons Before 1950; Inkwell Sets; Milk Glass; Small World War I Memorabilia; Sugar & Creamer Set and Water Set (Pitcher and two Tumblers).

He placed second in the Antique division in Carnival Glass and Berry Set, Bowl and Two Saucers. He finished third in three antique categories, Clear Pressed Pattern Glass; Covered Dishes and Cut Glass.

Becker finshed fifth in four antique categories, Children's Books; Hand-painted China Dishes; Stemmed Goblets, Any Glass, Crystal, Press Glass, Milk Glass, etc. and Illinois State Fair Sourvenirs or Ribbons After 1950.

Altamont's Scott Beal nabbed three firsts, two seconds, a third and two fifths in the antique division.

He won the Berry Set, Bowl and Two Saucers, Covered Dishes and Most Unusual Antique. Beal finished second in the Bride Basket and Glass, Pressed, Colored. He was third in the Miniature Kerosene or Other Oil Lamps. He had two fifth place finishes in the Cream Pitcher and Vinegar Cruets.

Kimberly Tarrant, also of Altamont, competed in the Antique Division. She won the Clear Pressed Pattern Glass and took second in the Religious Books. She garnered two third place finishes in the Glass, Pressed, Colored and Tins. She had a seventh place finish in the Five Valentines.

Mason's Dale Bushue won in Division IV of the Western Horse. He won in the Paint Horse Halter and Showmanship for Yearling & Two-Year-Old Geldings with TD To The Max.

He and TD To The Max finished second in the Paint Halter and Showmanship Amateur Gelding, Paint Halter and Showmanship Gelding All Ages, in the Paint Halter and Showmanship Grand and Reserve Champion Amateur Gelding and the Grand Champion Paint Gelding.

Kenley Carr of Toledo won in the Junior Horse Show, English and Western, Division Five. She won the Pattern Riding-Horse or Pony, exhibitors ages 15-16 and the Ranch Horse Pleasure, Horse over 56"

Katelyn Von Behrens of Stewardson placed second in the Sheep category, the LL-Reserve Champion Ram, any age.
