Clay County board members Tuesday learned that lightning Saturday damaged the county sheriff's office.

Phones, cameras, radios and other electronic equipment were damaged as well as window air conditioning units in the sheriff's office. Work is underway to replace the items. Sheriff Andy Myers also reported that the rooftop air conditioning units on the Courthouse in Louisville both need replaced. One unit failed and the other unit had to work too hard to provide cooling and began leaking coolant. The cost to estimate the two units is just under $36,000.

The Clay board welcomed new member Terry Woodrow of Clay City to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Bridget Schnautz. The Board also approved the salary of $40,000 for the animal control officer, then hired Gretchen Woomer as the new officer. Also, the board reappointed Curtis Lieb to the 911 board for a three-year term. It was also voted to allocate $5,000 in both 2023 and 2024 from opioid settlement funds to Assistant State's Attorney Cole Hildebrand in hopes of retaining him in his position. The Board also appointed Chris Boyd and Joe McCoy to the Clay County Board of Health.
