Sunday Night Storms Bring Welcome Rainfall

Heavy rainfall was a part of the storm system that came through the area Sunday night.

We recorded 1-1/2 inches of rain at our studios at Fayette and Willow in Effingham. More than an inch was reported in Mattoon.

The biggest totals, though, came from south of Effingham. We received a number of reports of two to 2-1/2 inches of rainfall, but also a couple of reports of four to 4-1/2 inches of rain. The line of storms stretched from Brownstown and St. Elmo to Altamont and down to Mason and Edgewood, then on east to Bishop Creek.

Hail was also a problem in some locations, particularly in the Mason area.
