The Effingham City-County Enterprise Zone Board Wednesday voted to approve the annexation of three parcels of land into the zone.

The parcels include a portion of Stoneridge Subdivision, northwest of Effingham off Illinois 32/33; as well as an area along US Route 40 near the city water treatment plant west of Effingham, and property along East Evergreen Avenue.

Developer Todd Kabbes was on hand on behalf of the projects. Kabbes said the decision to add a residential component to the Enterprise Zone was "the biggest thing you've done in many years," adding, "It's good timing in a pretty tough economy." All three projects would be residential in nature.

Now that the Enterprise Zone Board approved the annexations, the matters will have to be approved by the Effingham City Council, the Effingham County Board and the State.
