Altamont school board members Monday approved a one-year contract with the Altamont Education Association.

Altamont Superintendent Casey Adam said that as a result of the contract, teachers will see an increase in contributions towards health insurance premiums, contributions toward the Teacher Retirement System, and an overall average salary increase of about 11%. Adam said substantial increases were required due to changes in the law regarding minimum teacher salary, inflation, to attract and retain qualified teachers, and to remain competitive with other districts in the region.

In personnel action, the Altamont board accepted the resignation of Mike Ziegler as high school assistant baseball coach and hired Gretchen Alwardt as high school JV volleyball coach. The Board also authorized Adam to seek fuel bids and approved a senior class trip for the Class of 2024 to Washington, DC in March of 2024.
