2023 Funfest for Air Cooled VWs Underway

The VWs are in town!

The Funfest for Air-Cooled VWs is underway and will continue through Saturday night. The 2023 Fun Run Road Tour to kick off the weekend long event headed from the Mid America Motorworks complex to the Lake Sara area before heading into downtown Effingham shortly before 6pm Friday. The participants and local residents found food items, live music and kids games sponsored by VisitEffingham. 

One man, who referred to himself as "Batman", had a hybridized vehicle with the front and rear of a Volkswagen beetle welded to each end of a motorcycle with a bench seat attached. Batman said he is familiar with Effingham from his years when he traveled from Chicago to attend school at SIU Carbondale. Effingham was a favorite halfway point for stops along the way.

The scene shifts to Mid America Motorworks for the all day Saturday activities.
