The Effingham City Zoning Board of Appeals has granted a variance for a sign at Dieterich Bank's location at Fayette and Maple.

The message board to the east of the bank building needs to be relocated as part of the Fayette Avenue project.

The sign will sit on a base, rather than be held up between two pillars.

The Board of Appeals, however, denied a request for a building setback reduction. James and Stephanie Christine Schultz had requested to reduce the rearyard setback by 10 feet as part of a plan to build a house to the north of their residence on Beckman Drive.

Board members also discussed whether to change the start time of their meetings, which is now 6pm. No decision was reached.
