ABF2 (AW/SW) Seth Barnes returned on Sunday, April 23rd from an 8 1/2 month deployment aboard the USS George H.W. Bush.

The USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) left Norfolk last August and, with other members of its Carrier Strike Group, participated in NATO-led vigilance activity Neptune Strike and Juniper Oak 23-2, the largest bi-lateral U.S.-Israeli exercise in history. The entirety of the deployment was spent in the sixth fleet area of operation.

ABF2 Barnes began his Naval career immediately following his graduation from Cowden-Herrick High School in 2013 and has completed two deployments previously aboard the Bush, 2014 and 2017. He is officially assigned to the USS Stennis, which is currently in the shipyard for rebuilding. He was temporarily assigned to the USS George H.W. Bush for this deployment to serve as the V-4 Flight Deck LPO. During his time aboard CVN 77, he supervised over 19,000 fueling and defueling evolutions on the flight deck and hangar bay.

The Cowden native was greeted on the pier by his wife, Brittany, and children Greer and Walker. He will soon be making a short trip home to Illinois before heading out on a much needed and very well deserved vacation.

Seth is the son of Trent Barnes and Tracy Colclasure.
