Police are still seeking a suspect in what turned out to be a domestic incident in Cumberland County, but Thursday afternoon's sweep of the area has ended.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department responded to the incident on County Road 600 North at 12:08pm. The suspect left the scene prior to the officers' arrival.

The sheriff's department requested the assistance of Illinois State Police in the search for the suspect. Numerous county and state officers were deployed in the effort to locate the suspect, but were unsuccessful.

State police identified the suspect as 51-year-old James N. Walthers of Neoga.

The area of the search is roughly near Centerline Road and Seven Mile Curve. That's east of Neoga, west of Toledo and north of Montrose.

The victim of the domestic incident was treated for what were termed minor injuries at the scene by emergency service personnel.

Neoga and Sigel St. Michael school students were allowed to go home after their school day. St. Michael Principal Nick Niemerg said some students in the search area were released to their parents or guardians, while others took their usual journeys home.
