There were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois in the week ending April 16, 2023.

Statewide, the average temperature was 62.7 degrees, 11.5 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.65 inches; 0.45 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 11 percent short, 63 percent adequate, and 25 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 8 percent short, 75 percent adequate, and 16 percent surplus.

Corn planted was 10 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 3 percent.

Soybeans planted was 4 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 1 percent.

Winter wheat headed was 3 percent, even with the 5-year average. Winter wheat condition was 0 percent very poor, 1 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 21 percent excellent.
