Effingham Man Arrested for Alleged Role in Armed Robbery of Springfield Bank

An Effingham man is in custody for the alleged robbery of the Regions Bank in Springfield this week.

22-year-old Dylan Rensner was taken into custody Friday in regards to the Wednesday holdup. 

Following the robbery, Springfield police received tips from community members that led to the identification of Rensner as a possible suspect. Detectives learned that Rensner was in Terre Haute, Indiana through the use of Flock license plate readers and the assistance of the Illinois State Police Statewide Terrorism Intelligence Center. Springfield police detectives responded to Terre Haute and along with representatives from the Vigo County Sheriff's Office, Terre Haute Police Department, Indiana State Police, and the FBI located and took Rensner into custody without incident.

Rensner is currently being held in the Macon County Jail and the FBI will handle the continuing investigation.

The armed robbery occured just after 9am Wednesday. Police say a masked male suspect entered the bank with a handgun and demanded money. The suspect left the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. There were no injuries.
