The Effingham City Plan Commission is recommending the City Council rezone a property at 711 South Cherry. The rezoning would allow development of apartments on the property by K & A Land Development.

The project would involve the demolition of a single-family house now located on the parcel. Testimony indicated that improved drainage and removal of excess vegetation would also be part of the project.

The Plan Commission also recommended the City Council vacate a portion of an alley from Temple Avenue, north to an east-west alley at Main Street Apartments.

Developer Don Bushue would like to build additional apartments at the location, which would be facilitated by the alley vacation.

Site plans for the apartment construction projects will be seen by the Plan Commission at a future meeting.
