There were 2.5 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois in the week ending April 9, 2023.

Statewide, the average temperature was 52.4 degrees, 5.0 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.73 inches; 0.02 inches above normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 0 percent very short, 6 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 21 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 67 percent adequate, and 26 percent surplus.

Corn planted was 1 percent, even with the 5-year average.

Winter wheat headed was 1 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 2 percent. Winter wheat condition was 4 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 18 percent excellent.
