(BURGER)

An Edgewood resident has been arrested on suspicion of committing multiple vehicle burglaries in Effingham early Thursday morning.

19-year-old Joshua T. Burger was arrested later that morning in connection with 11 incidents of burglary from a motor vehicle, as well as incidents of felony theft and criminal trespass to real property, and six counts of theft.

In court, Burger's bond was set at $50,000. He is scheduled to make his first appearance with counsel on March 30.

Effingham City Police have received 11 reports of vehicles that were broken into and items stolen between midnight and 6am Thursday. All vehicles were reported to be unlocked and were located in the areas of Clinton, St. Anthony, Edgar, Mulberry, Cherry and Franklin. Various incidental items were reported stolen, including loose change.

Police began receiving complaints of burglaries in and around the 700 block of Clinton Avenue. Investigating officers identified a suspect after a victim shared security footage with the officers. Police received a separate and unrelated call for service later in the morning, leading to Burger's arrest.

Police are seeking additional information about similar incidents. Residents are also reminded to remove all valuables and to lock vehicles when not in use.
