A Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for aggravated battery in Effingham County.

35-year-old Blake Miller had also been charged with attempted murder in the 2021 case, but that count was dismissed as part of the negotiated plea on the aggravated battery offense.

Miller was arrested on allegations he slit the throat of a Kell woman during an altercation at an Altamont residence. The woman was treated and later released.

Miller and another individual were later arrested at a Mt. Vernon motel on drug charges. Those charges were addressed in Jefferson County before Miller was returned to Effingham County to handle the local charges.

Miller was sentenced to 10 years in prison on the charge of aggravated battery using a deadly weapon, and was also sentenced to 10 years in prison on a charge of unlawful vehicular invasion.
