One person was killed and three more were injured in a single-vehicle crash on I-70 near Altamont Friday morning.

Illinois State Police say that the eastbound vehicle left the roadway and overturned in the median. A 12-year-old Azle, Texas girl in the vehicle was killed in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 10-year-old girl from Azle, Texas was airlifted from the scene to St. Louis Children's Hospital. Two adults in the vehicle, 59-year-old Troy Slagle of Connersville, Indiana, who was the driver of the vehicle, and 62-year-old May Lou Simmons of Azle, Texas, were flown to Carle Hospital in Urbana for treatment.

The crash happened at 9:13am, about four miles east of Altamont. Both westbound and eastbound lanes at the scene were shut down. About an hour later, one eastbound lane and one westbound lane were re-opened. Both lanes in both directions were open again about 1:45pm.

Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes said the group was traveling from Texas to Indiana at the time of the crash.
