Effingham Park Board commissioners took time at this week's meeting to discuss whether to acquire additional AED machines.

Park Board President Russ Sehy said the recent incident at a NFL football game where Damar Hamlin collapsed prompted the discussion.

The Park District has an AED machine at the Ron Diehl Center at Hendelmeyer Park, one at the Kluthe Center, and one available at Evergreen Hollow Park when activities such Adventure Camp are taking place. There's some thought, though, that machines should be available at all of the fields where athletic activities are taking place.

Sehy said they will talk with Park District Director Jeff Althoff about the matter, and will research whether grant funding could be available to purchase the units.
