Local Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

A local traffic stop led to a drug arrest.

Effingham City Police stopped a vehicle at Walnut and Fayette at 4pm Wednesday. After a brief investigation, K9 Kona was deployed and alerted on the vehicle. The search led to discovery of 11 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 23 capsules of suspected fentanyl.

The vehicle driver, 32-year-old Ashey Ohlund of Effingham was arrested on charges of delivery of controlled substance, possession of 5 to 15 grams of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a vehicle with suspended registration.

Delivery of controlled substance is a Class X felony punishable by up to six to 30 years in prison. 

In court Friday, Ohlund's bond was set at $25,000. She is next due in court on January 11th.
