Shelby County Charges Against Owens Dismissed

Charges have been dropped in Shelby County against a Lakewood resident. The charges had included a Class X Felony aggravated kidnapping charge.

19-year-old David Owens was charged October 31 with the aggravated kidnapping, along with counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault. The allegation was that Owens committed acts against the alleged victim against her will. He was being held on $2 million bond.

Shelby County State's Attorney Nichole Kroncke Tuesday announced that the charges against Owens had been dismissed. Kroncke said that "new credible and material evidence has been discovered creating a reasonable likelihood that Owens did not commit the offense for which he was charged.". 

In addition to the dismissal of the Shelby County charges, Kroncke said a kidnapping charge against Owens in Moultrie County has also been dropped.
