The Energy Transition Community Grant Program has been launched in Illinois. It's an initiative that provides funding to communities undergoing a significant energy transition.

The program funds are designed to meet the needs of localities to address the economic and social impacts of plant closings, and can be used on a variety of initiatives and investments.

Those connected with the Newton power plant are eligible to apply, as the plant is scheduled to close in 2027.
