Effingham County Board members Monday approved Tammy Kreke as the next Effingham County Circuit Clerk.

Kreke, a long-time member of the Circuit Clerk's office staff, was the recommendation of the Effingham County Republican Central Committee's selection committee. She will succeed John Niemerg when he retires December 31.

Niemerg was recognized along with retired County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel, retired County Treasurer Paula Miller, and retired County Board members Jim Niemann, Rob Arnold, Joe Thoele, John Perry and Heather Mumma for their years of service. Also recognized was maintenance man Tony Hille who is retiring after 17 years' service.

County Board members approved spending $495,600 in ARPA monies on a system for rural fire departments to improve communications among the departments, and passed a resolution opposing a House Bill that would ban some forms of weapons and ammunition. County Vice-Chairman Dave Campbell said Iroquois County has already passed the measure and he said other counties are watching to see what Effingham County will do.
