Altamont City Council members Monday discussed seeking a $1.5 million grant to help pay for water main replacement work.

Altamont's chances of obtaining the grant can be improved if the City kicks in a 10% match, or $150,000. Council members feel they will have the local match available, and will discuss seeking the grant at a future meeting.

The Council amended the fiscal year appropriations ordinance, and established the levy for the new fiscal year. The levy totals $266,500, about a 3% increase over last year's levy. Altamont's equalized assessed valuation didn't go up, which held down the levy amount.

Altamont council members approved a grant writing services agreement with South Central Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission for $1,000. The grant would fund an inventory of lead water lines within the city.
